1 January 2013 sees the new EU ErP Directive

The total electricity consumption of all glandless circulating pumps operated in the European Union for heating and air conditioning – the normal small circulating pumps -  is to be halved by 2020. This is the objective of an EU ordinance under the European ErP (Eco-Design) Directive which has regulated the energy efficiency of this type of pump, from 1 January 2013 onwards, with a further tightening of requirements planned for 1 August 2015.

Overall, these changes are thought to be likely to provide an energy saving of 23 terawatt hours for the EU as a whole. This corresponds to the electricity generated by about six medium-sized coal-fired power stations, or a reduction in EU-wide carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of about 11 million tonnes per year.  That’s a hefty reduction by any standards.

In order to achieve this goal set by the European Commission, the EU ordinance prohibits the sale of technically outmoded, inefficient pump models from this year and onwards.  This has meant a ban on sales of about 90% of the glandless circulating pumps that were on the market in 2009. The reality is that the new efficiency requirements will be practically impossible to achieve without using high-efficiency pumps with EC motor technology.

Wilo Yonos Pico

Fits in any set-up.The Wilo Yonos PICO makes installation especially easy. This is due to its compact dimensions, as the new standard high-efficiency pump fits in any installation situation.Simple connection thanks to the Wilo-Connector.Typically PICO: The new Wilo-Yonos PICO has a clever electrical connection. On other models you have to go to the trouble of attaching the cable ends directly to the terminal box, but with the Wilo-Connector this is so much more simple. First, connect the cable to the patented plug connection, then plug this into the corresponding connection on the pump – straightforward and done without tools, so it happens in the blink of an eye.By the way: The Wilo-Yonos PICO is set at the factory so that the setpoint is at 2 m or 3 m. At initial commissioning the display shows this value and then the power consumption.

Sometimes installation situations can be very narrow and difficult to get to, for example in pipe groups or heating circuit distributors.  In this case, we recommend the Wilo angle plug with cast two-metre connection cable and a free cable end.
