WILO SEMINARS GET GREEN LIGHT FOR CPD
Wilo, the leading European pump manufacturer now has Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Seminar Certification from the Construction CPD Certification Service to conduct a number of highly topical and sector beneficial seminars.

‘The Benefits of High Efficiency Pumping’ seminar reflects Wilo’s pedigree in the development of leading edge technology for pumps and pumping systems.  The Wilo research and development agenda has been primarily driven by the energy efficiency debate for many years and resulted in worldwide acknowledgement for the quality and engineering expertise that has been incorporated into its whole range of pumps, from its sector leading small domestic circulators to its largest commercial pumps and pumping stations.  The seminar covers a range of topics including environmental considerations, energy costs, achieving ‘Class A’ classification, hydraulic and motor efficiency, capital cost returns and provides pump specifying guidance.

Wilo’s ‘Surge Protection’ seminar has already been well received by a wide range of those seeking to learn how to ‘design out’ hydraulic shock from the systems they own and operate.  More and more people are reliant on pumps to provide their water supply at sufficient pressure to enable normal daily living to continue. Water provided under pressure in this way,  can result in ‘hydraulic shock’ in the system – which in a worst case scenario can see water under very high pressure – up to 600psi - looking for escape routes, entering people’s homes through taps and showers and occasionally, blown joints in pipe work. The seminar discusses the meaning of hydraulic shock, how it is caused, its consequences and how to design it out and prevent it.

Wilo UK has successfully worked with a wide range of contractors, local authorities and housing associations across the UK, installing its reliable, energy efficient, water booster sets to ensure a quality supply of potable water to householders and has a huge amount of expertise in this field. Hydraulic shock is the sudden elevation in line pressure caused by a shock wave created by the sudden change in velocity of non-compressible liquid – especially water. Most commonly, hydraulic shock occurs when a column of water is suddenly stopped and the kinetic energy of the motion is changed to pressure energy that needs to be absorbed.

The third seminar to be approved for CPD is ‘A Guide to Rainwater Harvesting Systems’. Wilo is one of the leading European experts in rainwater harvesting and has taken this expertise and packaged it in a seminar to share its knowledge, built over many years, particularly in mainland Europe. For years, here in the UK we have happily ‘cleaned’ the water supply before flushing it down the toilet. Do we need to use potable – drinkable water to flush our toilets? To wash our cars? To water our gardens? Clearly the answer is no. Water that falls from the sky is in the main clean and an excellent source of water for those tasks that don’t involve drinking, cooking and personal hygiene. The seminar explains the meaning of rainwater harvesting, its environmental considerations, the different options available, hygiene and usage along with design issues and an introduction to the relevant regulations and standards.

All the new approved seminars are accompanied by ‘real life’ case studies, to illustrate the issues discussed in each seminar.
